Summer Fun without Breaking the Bank
Summer Fun without Breaking the Bank
Now that we’re officially in the summer season, are you ready for relaxing vibes, exciting adventures, and memory-making moments?
If that first sentence struck a chord of anxiety, I totally get it. That’s a lot of expectations! And if you’re sharing your summer with a partner, family, or kids, you’re likely concerned about how their summer experiences are going to pan out, too. Hey, we want everyone to have an amazing time, within reason ... and a budget. The more the merrier, and the more the money. But even if you’re doing summer solo or tapping in with friends, the price of fun can add up quickly.
So, in the spirit of not breaking the bank, here is a list of low-cost to no-cost things to do to keep your summer fun!
Get into Nature
It’s just outside your front door, and it’s free! Take a walk, a bike ride, or a trip to the local park. The fresh air and sunlight are good for you, but remember your hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Go Fly a Kite
No, really! Discount stores will have your pick of colorful kites to choose from. For a few bucks and an open space, you could have hours of fun.
Completely by the Book
Explore fantastical worlds, learn about history or current events, brush up on a foreign language, and more! Just visit your local library and your imagination will thrive. Plus, lots of libraries offer story times, crafts, music events, free computer sessions, and classes. Check it out.
Phone It In
Most of us have a handy device called a cell phone. Not that we need to spend all summer on a screen, but there are some cool FREE apps that are entertaining, educational, and even relaxing. So, it’s not all doom scrolling! Enjoy with a friend or chill out solo.
Under the Stars
Take a break and relax under the night sky. Google the constellations, get your snacks and a blanket, and take in the wonder. Oh, don’t forget your bug spray
Good Garden
Flowers, herbs, or food, whatever you want. Pick a planter, spot in your yard, or even a used egg carton to start your gardening goals.
Arts and Crafts
Tap into your inner artist and create! Use what you have at home or find supplies on sale at craft or department stores.
Sing It Out
Backyard karaoke, anyone? If you don’t invite your neighbors, you may want to keep it in the basement.
Drive-In Movie Special
If you’re lucky enough to have a drive-in theater near you, check to see if they have a flat fee for the entire car. Split the bill and enjoy a carload of fun!
Support Your Local Farmers & Merchants
Walk around the Farmers’ Market and window shop! There’s usually entertainment and treats, but you definitely don’t have to buy anything.
Yard Sale
Want to make some cash, get rid of clutter, and have extra time to kill? Have a garage sale on your own or invite others to make it a multi-family sale! It might be more fun than you think.
Remember, not every moment of summer needs to be planned. Or uber-expensive! The fun memories that last are about who you were with and how happy you felt. And you can’t put a price on that!
